It was fished by 19 anglers and was won by Kenny Watts with a late run of decent carp and he weighed in 30 lb 08 oz. The big carp showing late in the match also saw Pete Hill finish in second spot with 20 lb 09 oz and both these two now lead the league as it stands. Les Ashby came second in A section with 18 lb 02 oz for section win and Malcolm Barnes had second in section with 14 lb 12 oz.
Stuart Fleming was in B section and had a couple of decent carp plus some nice perch for a section win with 15 lb 12 oz and Andy Bruce came second with 10 lb 06 oz. Pete Hill had the biggest perch 2 lb 06 oz and Gary Didcock had the prize for the biggest bream 2 lb.
Baz Barnes won the 50/50 raffle ( money made goes to FISH'n'FROLICS junior anglers).
Great turn out. Brilliant banter and look forward to the next round.

March 2026
We had a silvers match at Aston Magna where any fish count except carp, it was a bit of fun and we all caught fish albeit a bit slow due to the drop in temperature and more rain again.
The winner was Andy Bruce with 7 lb 07 oz, second was Steve Arthurs with 6 lb 01 oz and third was Malcolm Barnes with 6 lb. Andy also won the side bet of the biggest perch with 05 oz 08 drams.
The river season has now closed for coarse fishing for three months and the focus now for anglers is on the pools and canals The ongoing debate about this has rumbled on for years and will continue for the foreseeable future.
Shipston is fortunate to have the pools at Aston Magna set in the gorgeous country side
and is a mixed fishery which appeals to most anglers so we are lucky to have this as a back up.
This weekend sees the start of the Aston Magna Tankard series and Paul Geden Trophy, this is a very popular series of 4 matches and hopefully the weather improves or at least stays dry for a change.

Sparrow Winter League Final Round
15th February 2026
Sundays match which was the final round of Sparrows Winter League and needless to say as per most of the previous matches it was held on Shipston-on-Stour Angling Club match pool at Aston Magna due to the flooded river Stour.
12 anglers fished regardless of the conditions, it was horrendous for most of the match and at the weigh in the heavens opened which couldn't have been worse! Despite this it was a decent match but hard going for most of the day which was to be expected.
Baz Barnes won the match with 11 lb, Tony Avery came second with 10 lb 15 oz and Stuart Fleming came third with 8 lb 05 oz.
Stuart Fleming didn't fancy his peg at the start but he also knew that it had a few carp on it but not many of the smaller fish, he lost a few but managed to hang on to win the league ahead of Gary Didcock who came second in the league

Both Chris & Les are on maximum points at the half way stage with 22 points .
The next match is Sparrows match on Sunday and has been transferred to Aston Magna as the rivers are so high at the moment and are unlikely to be any different by the weekend.

Aston Magna Christmas Match
2025
Xmas match at Aston Magna was well attended with 16 anglers and the banter began well before the match started and carried on throughout the match and long after.
It was a tricky match for a lot of the anglers with all the cold water going into the pools but Andy Bruce managed to find some of the carp to win with 19 lb 14 Oz, Stuart Fleming managed to keep the silver fish feeding with 104 small roach and perch that weighed 5 lb 14 Oz , Baz Barnes came third with 4 lb 12 oz. HELP FOR HEROES CHARITY MATCH, NEWBURY, 2025
A great day out yesterday fishing the Annual Newbury HELP for HEROES charity open match on the K & A canal at Enborne, a group of Shipston anglers went and as always we were well looked after with bacon rolls to start and post match meal at the Lamb afterwards.
